Successful Relationship?

During an interview with HuffPost Live, Jada Pinkett Smith disclosed her secret to being married for 16 years with Hollywood star Will Smith. However, her secret eerily resemble characteristics of what open relationships entail. Though I admire her message of “Will as his own man,” does it entail that in order for relationships to last, monogamy gets thrown out the window?

Jim Grant (Robert Redford) is a public interest lawyer and single father raising his daughter in the tranquil suburbs of Albany, New York.  Grant’s world is turned upside down, when a brash young reporter named Ben Shepard (Shia LaBeouf) exposes his true identity as a former 1970s antiwar radical fugitive wanted for murder.  After living for more than 30 years underground, Grant must now go on the run. With the FBI in hot pursuit, he sets off on a cross-country journey to track down the one person that can clear his name.

Shepard knows the significance of the national news story he has exposed and, for a journalist, this is an opportunity of a lifetime.  Hell-bent on making a name for himself, he is willing to stop at nothing to capitalize on it.   He digs deep into Grant’s past.   Despite warnings from his editor and threats from the FBI, Shepard relentlessly tracks Grant across the country.

As Grant reopens old wounds and reconnects with former members of his antiwar group, the Weather Underground, Shepard realizes something about this man is just not adding up.  With the FBI closing in, Shepard uncovers the shocking secrets Grant has been keeping for the past three decades. As Grant and Shepard come face to face in the wilderness of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, they each must come to terms with who they really are.

With terrific ensemble cast there is a reasonable amount of tension throughout, where one wonders what will happen next. These people exist in real life, some characters felt cartoonish and unbelievable while standing atop their mighty soapbox but actors like Shia and Robert are still able to wrestle such negative points to the ground. However, things to say about pernicious U.S. government policies of the day that engendered the Weathermen’s sometimes excessive protests — yet another deeply satisfying evening of cinema from the uniquely gifted, unfailingly dependable Robert Redford.

Starbuck was co-written and directed by Ken Scott, who penned the screenplay with Martin Petit, the film stars Patrick Huard as David Wozniak, a 42-year old lovable but perpetual screw up who finally decides to take control of his life.  A habitual sperm donor in his youth, he discovers that he’s the biological father of 533 children, 142 of whom are trying to force the fertility clinic to reveal the true identity of the prolific donor code-named Starbuck.

Produced by André Rouleau, the film also stars Julie Le Breton, as David’s long suffering girlfriend who suddenly finds herself pregnant and understandably reluctant to share parenthood with the unreliable David, and Antoine Bertrand, David’s longtime friend, Paul, an attorney who takes on his case while trying to disabuse him of the joys of parenthood.

It’s a story hugely sentimental full of unexpected reactions of some characters but plenty of charm and great humor sense. Mainly with anonymity laws have changed and 142 of these young adults want to meet him what is he going to do? Is he will be out of this intriguingly bizarre situation? Just see it because is really enjoyable French Canadian film will be will release on March 22 in Los Angeles and New York, with a national rollout to follow.

Don’t get mad – get everything!” is the mantra for DIVORCE PARTY THE MUSICAL-The Hilarious Journey to Hell…and Back! from the producer of the Off-Broadway hit, MENOPAUSE THE MUSICAL promises a night of laughter and solidarity for all. The story centers on Linda, who is still reeling from the collapse of her marriage. When all she wants to do is have another bowl of Chubby Hubby ice cream, Linda’s three friends (along with a massage therapist/pizza delivery boy/make-over guru and others) decide to help her move on to a new beginning by throwing her the mother of all divorce parties. Using familiar songs with clever new lyrics, and coupled with a good dose of comic mayhem (and a touch of “naughty”) the girls cut loose on the realities of divorce, long term relationships and moving on.

The production coming to Los Angeles previously performed at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach and the Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  A separate, Canadian company performed the show at Stage West in Mississauga, Ontario last fall.
