A big mass of farce and tragedy in “My Big Night”

“My Big Night” stars Spanish icon RaphaelMario Casas (Witching & Bitching, “The Boat”), Blanca Suarez (The Skin I Live InI’m So Excited),Hugo Silva (Witching & Bitching), among other talented Spanish actors. It’s only October, but the network’s annual black-tie New Year’s Eve spectacular has already been in production for a grueling week and a half. A falling crane has taken out an extra and the show’s hosts are at each other’s throats. A semen thieve deceives oversexed pop sensation Adán (Mario Casas) while legendary superstar Alphonso (Raphael) learns he is being stalked by an armed and unstable songwriter. Meanwhile, just outside the studio, the police arrive, as protesters demand the arrest of the shows corrupt producer (Santiago Segura).

From Director  Álex de la Iglesia was born in Bilbao, Spain. Pedro Almodóvar, who produced his first feature film Mutant Action, discovered his talents in 1993. For his second feature, The Day of the Beast (1995), he won Spain’s highest cinematographic honor, the Goya Award for Best Director. His films have been widely distributed throughout the world, and three of his features have been Official Selections of Miami International Film Festival – Perfect Crime (2005), The Last Circus (2011) and Witching & Bitching (2014). Other feature films include The Oxford Murders (2008) and As Luck Would Have It (2013). Many things happen, mostly for humor; sometimes quite violent or sexual related; but at the end what was supposed to be a satire on the TV so during 1 hr. 40 min., the superstar Raphael riffing on his own image and the film makes it like the most hilarious and drunken evening full of sarcasm in a TV set.
