“Eye In The Sky” is part of the drones strike

From director Gavin Hood “Eye In The Sky” stars Helen Mirren as Colonel Katherine Powell, a UK-based military officer in command of a top secret drone operation to capture terrorists in Kenya. Through remote surveillance and on-the-ground intel, Powell discovers the targets are planning a suicide bombing and the mission escalates from “capture” to “kill.” But as American pilot Steve Watts (Aaron Paul) is about to engage, a nine-year old girl enters the kill zone, triggering an international dispute reaching the highest levels of US and British government over the moral, political, and personal implications of modern warfare. Special screening of the Academy Award®-nominated and Golden Globe-winning film “SELMA”

For students, teachers and administrators at Pathways in Technology Early College High School, the sponsorship marks the first time since the inception of the nationwide Selma for Students program that a company has provided the funds for an entire school to see the film. Nearly 500 students in Brooklyn will experience the film due to the contributions of Google and the support of software company Infor and Paramount Pictures.

“Some Brooklyn students are pioneering a movement and the collective experience of seeing the film will be powerful and empowering for all of us.“It is imperative for me to keep alive the stories about how African-Americans have dealt with struggle and resistance to injustice. It is equally important for the students to see that activism is selfless work.

Directed by DuVernay and starring David Oyelowo as Martin Luther King Jr., “SELMA” is nominated for Academy Awards® for Best Picture and Best Original Song for “Glory” by Common & John Legend. The film earned a Golden Globe Award for Best Song for “Glory” and was nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Director.

Paramount Pictures, Pathé, and Harpo Films present “SELMA.” Produced by Christian Colson, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Oprah Winfrey, the film is executive produced by Brad Pitt, Cameron McCracken, Diarmuid McKeown, Nik Bower, Ava DuVernay, Paul Garnes and Nan Morales. The film is written by Paul Webb. “SELMA” is directed by Ava DuVernay.

“SELMA” is the story of a movement. The film chronicles the tumultuous three-month period in 1965, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led a dangerous campaign to secure equal voting rights in the face of violent opposition. The epic march from Selma to Montgomery culminated in President Johnson (Tom Wilkinson) signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965, one of the most significant victories for the civil rights movement. Director Ava DuVernay’s “SELMA” tells the story of how the revered leader and visionary Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (David Oyelowo) and his brothers and sisters in the movement prompted change that forever altered history. The film also stars Tom Wilkinson, Cuba Gooding Jr., Alessandro Nivola, Giovanni Ribisi, Common, Carmen Ejogo, Lorraine Toussaint, with Tim Roth and Oprah Winfrey as “Annie Lee Cooper.”

Tom Hanks makes an unforgettable film with Captain Phillips

It is a movie made with a true-life action where not only a riveting drama about quiet heroism but is a man who does extraordinary things in the face of death. The film focuses on the relationship between the Alabama’s commanding officer, Captain Richard Phillips, and the Somali pirate captain, Muse, who takes him hostage. Phillips and Muse are set on an unstoppable collision course when Muse and his crew target Phillips’ unarmed ship; in the ensuing standoff, 145 miles off the Somali coast, both men will find themselves at the mercy of forces beyond their control. Many things make to some characters face twisted “Stayin’ Alive” facts and some dialogues will make you angry and hurt your brain so the director Paul Greengrass is unique due the way he employs all the scenes and his method is as expressive as the style of a superb novelist. All the actors transform in a pirate film in something full of intrigue and despair by Captain Phillips. Now is available in Blu-ray Combo pack and DVD with audio and subtitles in English, French and Spanish subtitles. Two thumbs up for this movie that needs to be part of your home collection.

Actor Larry Hagman dies at 81-years-old

Larry Hagman, who created one of American television’s most supreme villains in the conniving, amoral oilman J.R. Ewing of “Dallas,” died on Friday, the Dallas Morning News reported. He was 81. Hagman worked off Broadway until 1959 when he won roles on Broadway in ‘God and Kate Murphy’ and ‘The Nervous’. Meanwhile he was cutting his teeth on New York based television in programmes ranging from drama to daytime soaps, including ‘The Edge of the Night’ (1961-3).

Brothers have a role in your life

Set over Halloween weekend in 1987, My Brothers tells the story of three boys’ journey to replace their dying father’s watch. Using a battered bread van, the brothers embark on a journey across the wild Irish landscape to get to an arcade machine in the small Irish seaside town of Ballybunion, where an identical watch resides.

Along the way they’re detoured by escalating brotherly battles in an off-beat and moving journey that eventually, changes their relationship and leads them back to their dying father.  The brothers’ relationship is solid and it never loses focus on the fact that it’s about them coping with the loss of their father. All three are very good actors and it’ll be a pleasure to see them in future roles.

“American Reunion” steps up with some genuine laughs

American Reunion comes back to all the American Pie characters we met a little more than a decade ago return to East Great Falls for their high-school reunion. In one long-overdue weekend, they will discover what has changed, who hasn’t and that time and distance can’t break the bonds of friendship. Jim, Michelle, Stifler, and their friends reunite in East Great Falls, Michigan for their high school reunion.

If you are looking for a good comedy to go see, this one, is a good choice. Plenty of funny scenes some of them are bringing back the nostalgic memories mostly from the first film. You will laugh from beginning to end, and none of the laughter or jokes were forced. All the characters have their own issues (too married, have kids, hate their jobs, hate their lifestyle, etc.) and the movie is kind of about them all resolving their over the course of a reunion weekend. It’s the American Pie which is most similar to the first one. All the old couples from high-school (Oz/Heather, Kevin/Vicky, Jim/Michelle) re-hash their past feelings. So all the best jokes and good comedy is back again!

Orlando Bloom Takes Adorable Son Hiking

Orlando Bloom is not only a handsome man, he is also a loving father. He was spotted hiking with his 14-month-old son Flynn, in Hollywood. Orlando Bloom is married to Victoria’s Secret model Miranda Kerr, they are one happy and beautiful couple. Flynn is one lucky baby! Let’s hope they stay together and do not end in the Hollywood walk of divorce.

Mirror Mirror, steals the spotlight away from the hero

One of the most beloved stories of all time is coming on March 30^th for the whole family, Mirror Mirror.  A fresh and funny retelling of the Snow White legend, Mirror Mirror features breakout star Lily Collins (The Blind Side) as Snow White, a princess in exile, and Oscar®-winner Julia Roberts as the evil Queen who ruthlessly rules her captured kingdom. Seven courageous rebel dwarfs join forces with Snow White as she fights to reclaim her birthright and win her Prince in this magical comedy filled with jealousy, romance, and betrayal that will capture the hearts and imaginations of audiences the world over.  The film also stars Armie Hammer (The Social Network) as the Prince, and Nathan Lane (The Birdcage) as the hapless and bungling servant to the Queen.

The Queen in this new version of the classic Snow White story. The script -credited to Marc Klein and Jason Keller -delivers a merry kid-level corrective to Disney, and while parents will have been there and done that, the verbal wit and Tarsem’s visual invention make “Mirror Mirror” entirely tolerable. Even so, if you are willing to overcome your disbelief in the end, the greater part of this movie is not half as bad. Especially  because the story appears to have been scripted with a lot of focus on Julia’s  character. It’s almost as if this version was written by the evil queen herself.
