The Diary of a Teenage Girl is a fascinating film you can see it again and again

By Jenny Alvarez

Like most teenage girls, Minnie Goetze (Bel Powley) is longing for love, acceptance and a sense of purpose in the world. Minnie begins a complex love affair with her mother’s (Kristen Wiig) boyfriend, “the handsomest man in the world,” Monroe Rutherford (Alexander Skarsgård). What follows is a sharp, funny and provocative account of one girl’s sexual and artistic awakening, without judgment.

The Diary of a Teenage Girl is based on Phoebe Gloeckner’s novel of the same name, hailed by Salon as “one of the most brutally honest, shocking, tender and beautiful portrayals of growing up female in America.” Although is related to a confused young woman, during 1 hr. 42 min. the spectator will enjoy many magnificent scenes from the sunshine of ’70s San Francisco. Minnie is the perfect combination of immaturity and youth full of emotions, sex and drugs so her womanhood might be inspirational or educational and parents might have a big responsibility to show the consequences of bad behavior of their children.

It is a complex film which reflects creativity of some animated images of Aline Kominsky-Crumb’s comics. This teenage girl is the only victim of a delusional mindset, little attention to her physical and psychological needs. Definitely is a film you can have a good learning and somehow create awareness that our teenagers should have the right path in life to have a happy life without having to face the misfortune that may cause the misuse of drugs or unbridled sexual life.

Love not always is so aboveboard as in Paper Towns

By Alfonso De Elias

Adapted from the bestselling novel by author John Green (“The Fault in Our Stars”) and director Jake Schreier, Paper Towns is a coming-of-age story centering on Quentin and his enigmatic neighbor Margo, who loved mysteries so much she became one. After taking him on an all-night adventure through their hometown, Margo suddenly disappears–leaving behind cryptic clues for Quentin to decipher. Here is when true love will be as profound as friendship.

Although this great film involves a particular social group of high school friends and this exploration of the kind of relationship that can’t help but teach us a little bit about ourselves and how some young lovers react after loving an idea of a person. With a great cast  Nat Wolff, Cara Delevingne, Halston Sage, Austin Abrams, Justice Smith, Jaz Sinclair, thus film has awesome things should happen and adventures should be started.

The Piano Guys were playing Cello and a Piano in a classical vein

The Piano Guys were in a great concert at Greek Theater which has excellent acoustic, audio and friendly management help. These four talented dads from Utah, have climbed the Great Wall of China for their craft, landed a top Billboard charts, sold out tour dates around the world, accrued a massive social media following and scored YouTube viewership at 500 million views with their brand new album, Wonders!

Their concert was full of film music videos, with successful single/video releases from the past year such as, “Let It Go,” “Kung Fu Piano: Cello Ascends,” and “Story of my Life.” It also includes new songs with strong familiarity that incorporates melodies from Dave Matthews Band’s huge hit “Ants Marching / Beethoven Ode to Joy,” they continued with more beautiful songs such, “Epic,”“Bourne,””Upside Down,””Father’s Eyes,” until the intermission.

As spectator, I realized these talented artists have a real connection through their little chats with the audience. After the intermission, they continued with “Secrets,” “Snoopy,””Story of My Life,” “1000 Years,”“Mashup,””Rockabell,””Beautiful” and in some songs were hilarious because Jon was dancing with a particular and unique style. If he weren’t a musician, he would’ve made for a fantastic comedian.

The Piano Guys – Steven Sharp Nelson, Jon Schmidt, Al Van der Beek and Paul Anderson included a well structured concert, dynamic and worthy. For me, this concert might be the best show of the year.

“3 Hearts” is part of passion in a love triangle

By Jenny Alvarez

During 106 min. this great film (‘3 Coeurs’) with unique French style and contempo which involves a love triangle with a Parisian man Marc (Benoît Poelvoorde) who meets Sylvie (Charlotte Gainsbourg) after missing his train back to Paris. Instantly and intensely drawn to one another, they wander through the streets until morning in rare, almost choreographed, harmony. A thwarted plan for a second meeting sends each in a separate direction –Sylvie reunites with her ex and leaves France; Marc falls in love and marries.

What neither knows is that Marc’s new bride is Sylvie’s sister, Sophie (Chiara Mastroianni). Upon Sylvie’s return to France, the spark between her and Marc is reignited in ways that will forever alter the relationships between sister to sister and husband to wife.

This film reflects part of reality of life. Sometimes one moment changes our lives. Catherine Deneuve still looking quite remarkable. Many locations are settled in Paris and a provincial town south of Lyon. In general it’s powerfully emotional film that references great romances of the past. Even the whole film is spoken in French, you will have the English subtitles so some dialogues are more enjoyable in French; especially, if you understand the basics.
