Fashion Industry Experts Select The Art Institutes Designers for a Fashion Week

By GalaTView Staff

The Art Institutes system of schools raised the bar for its Fall 2014 fashion show by enlisting industry experts including fashion designers John Bartlett, Douglas Hannant and Bonnie Young; Cliodna Egan, and more. The Art Institutes Fall 2014 fashion show is one of only two shows during Fashion Week that includes alumni designs.

The Art Institutes Fall 2014 show may just be the most diverse group show assembled for Fashion Week. A former Marine, a carpenter and an architect are three of this season’s standouts, all of whom switched careers to pursue their true passions at Art Institutes schools. The Art Institutes gives a  chance to present their looks to an international audience and get a glimpse of what it takes to market themselves and their designs to potential clients and buyers. Their collections will include both women’s and men’s sportswear and eveningwear, showing the culmination of techniques learned in the classroom and brought to life by the range, vision and creativity of the young designers.

Latino Celebrities to Raise Awareness Around Texting and Driving

By GalaTView staff

An important TV channel has launched its ‘Si Texteas No Manejes’ campaign, which aims to create consciousness about the dangers of texting while driving. The campaign includes video messages from stars such as Carlos Baute, Khriz y Angel, Toby Love, and Danny Trejo among many others. The campaign forms part of a goal to educate Hispanic Americans about the issues that impact their daily lives. A recent study done by an important Cell phones Company shows that Hispanic teens 15-19 years old were “much less prone to recognize the dangers of texting while stopped at a red light or glancing at their phone while driving.”

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, in 2012 alone, 3,328 people were killed in distracted driving crashes. The continuing rise in these numbers has taken center stage in the media, and has prompted legislation preventing the use of mobile devices while driving in various states.

The list of participating celebrities also includes: Arcangel, Angelica Castro, Chef Hamlet Garcia, Minerva Borjas, Grupomania, Annabelle Blum, Miguelito, Alexa Vega, Horoscopos de Durango, Agueda Lopez, Pee Wee, Alexis Valdes, Marian de la Fuente, Maffio, Jon Secada, Gaby Acuna, Bonka, Custo Barcelona, Jordi Molla, Kenny Williams, Rigu, JEO Music, Irma Martinez, Manolo Cardona, Roberto Manrique, Siudy Garrido, Tommy Torres, Luis Rollan, Saul Lisazo, Reunion Nortena, Carolina Cruz, Camila Canabal, the cast of the film ‘Pulling Strings’, Omar Chaparro, Jaime Camil, el ex-Menudo Rene Farrait, El Grupo Vena, Marger, Kingz One, and Rodolfo Jimenez.

Carey apologized for her Libyan gig

By GalaTView staff

The woman is an entertainer and her job is to entertain and get paid for it but Mariah Carey was criticized for human rights campaigners after performing for Angola’s president Jose Eduardo Dos Santos few days ago. In a statement, Halvorssen describes Dos Santos as a “dictator,” writing, “Mariah Carey can’t seem to get enough dictator cash, reportedly more than $1 million this time. Just five years ago she performed for the family of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi. Now, she goes from private performances to public displays of support and credibility for one of Africa’s chief human rights violators and most corrupt tyrants.

Ian Watkins of Lostprophets accepted he was a 'determined and committed paedophile'

The former lead singer of the rock band Lostprophets was sentenced Wednesday to 29 years in jail, with a British judge saying that Ian Watkins had “plumbed new depths of depravity” in committing a string of sexual offenses against very young children.

Watkins, 36, pleaded guilty last month to 13 charges, including trying to rape a baby, sexually touching a 1-year-old, encouraging a fan to abuse her child and making child pornography.

Women: How would you feel as The Invisible Woman?

By Jenny Alvarez

Nelly (Felicity Jones), a happily-married mother and schoolteacher, is haunted by her past. Her memories, provoked by remorse and guilt, take us back in time to follow the story of her relationship with Charles Dickens (Ralph Fiennes) with whom she discovered an exciting but fragile complicity.

Dickens – famous, controlling and emotionally isolated within his success – falls for Nelly, who comes from a family of actors. The theatre is a vital arena for Dickens – a brilliant amateur actor and Nelly becomes the focus of Dickens’ passion and his muse, for both of them secrecy is the price, and for Nelly a life of “invisibility”.

Despite of the cold, emotionless for some characters, in some scenes attempts analyze how much bigger than “simple” infidelity can be this fact for the main character and the “victim”. The film is visually stunning, complete with consistently well-composed shots and breathtaking landscapes in few words it has an intriguing story and performances that convincingly brought it to life with a fine cast in period costume and setting, a quiet subtle score, and careful Victorian cultural references.

This film gives you a powerful final third documenting an ultimately tragic romance in deeply felt terms with drama and an unsaid secret.
