A second-rate cage fighter on the mixed martial arts circuit, Luke Wright lives a numbing life of routine beatings and chump change… until the day he blows a rigged fight. Wanting to make an example of him, the Russian Mafia murders his family and banishes him from his life forever, leaving Luke to wander the streets of New York destitute, haunted by guilt, and tormented by the knowledge that he will always be watched, and anyone he develops a relationship with will also be killed. But when he witnesses a frightened twelve-year-old Chinese girl, Mei, being pursued by the same gangsters who killed his wife, Luke impulsively jumps to action… and straight into the heart of a deadly high-stakes war
Safe does a smart job of playing to Statham’s strengths in its action sequences. This movie is full of predictable scenes with few gunfights.
Luke (Jason Statham) is a brave man who faces all Russian gangsters who kidnapped Mei (Catherine Chan). Both Statham and Chan work really well together. Then you consider the many political implications. We eventually meet the slimy mayor (Chris Sarandon), who of course is involved because this thing goes all the way to the top, and the cops (including Robert John Burke as the Captain) who resent Luke for ratting them out for their corrupt behavior years ago. The only bad point for this movie is when Mei is involved in many blood and bullets scenes but Jason Statham makes this movie worthy of the full range of his talent and everybody ought to be good at something, and when it comes to this kind of thing, Statham is very good, indeed. This is released on April 27th in many American movie theaters.
The comedian Will Ferrell will be hosting “Saturday Night Live” on May 12. This will be Ferrell’s third time hosting the show. Ferrell recently came out with the film “Casa De Mi Padre” and has confirmed to make a sequel to “Anchorman”. SNL can count on Ferrell to get laughs from the audience. Another guest will be Usher, who will be performing on the show “Looking for Myself” from his upcoming record.
In the Hollywood working world, the women are making more money than their husbands. The Victoria’s Secret Model Gisele Bundchen is one of the highest paid women in Hollywood, she makes $45 million annually. Her husband Tom Brady is from the NFL Patriots and makes $72 million every four years. Gisele is definitely the breadwinner in this relationship. Oprah Winfrey also makes more than her beau Stedman Graham. Oprah makes $290 million, while Stedman’s earnings are not available for public access.
The actress from “Precious”, Gabourey Sidibe was told to look for a career change by her role model Joan Cusack. In an interview by the host Andy Cohen, Sidibe stated that when she met Cusack she was disappointed, because she told her that the entertainment industry was “so image-conscious”. The young actress did well by not listening to her and has opened doors to other young actresses to follow their dreams, regardless of their background or weight.
Even though Rosie O’Donnell does not approve of Lindsay Lohan’s ability to play the great actress Elizabeth Taylor, Lohan and Taylor look alike. The 25-year-old actress will play the role of the legendary Elizabeth Taylor in the upcoming Lifetime movie Liz and Dick. During a recent interview, O’Donnell stated “I feel very sorry for her … I think she needs a lot of time away … She’s had a lot of trouble doing every single movie, including SNL. She was out and not in rehearsal. I think she’s not in a place to work.” Regardless, we can see the resemblance.
